Barn OWLs: Outdoor Wilderness Learning

barn OWLs 09Having littles of my own with a fairly large age spread has made offering camps a bit tricky. Each year though, we have made it work because each Spring I start getting requests from parents who want to see an affordable camp offering that honors children where they are and for who they are, allows them to be an active participant in building their camp community, and immerses them fully in the magic and wonder of the Earth and all the beings that we share this planet with.

barn OWLs 08Through a wide range of hands-on activities and experiences, we will provide opportunities for children to connect with nature in a playful and meaningful way in order to inspire a life-long love of the outdoors. We hope these experiences also help to foster a sense of environmental stewardship and community service. Activities include outdoor explorations, scientific inquiry, art projects, music and movement, conservation activities, and reading & math connections. All of which are designed to help foster learning and promote development in social, emotional, physical, language, and cognitive domains.

barn OWLs 06No longer able to simply wrap my youngest up upon my back, I am gratefully handing the facilitation of these memorable camp experiences over to Outdoor Educator and Naturalist Sara Apgar and Hilary Lammon, who barn OWLs 03worked as a Middle School Science Teacher prior to taking her full time role as Mother . I have known both of these women for 8 years now and love and trust them with my whole heart – both the one that resides within me and the two that now live outside of me. If you’ve not met them, or this will be the first time enrolling your child in camp this year, please do hang out with us for a bit Monday morning. And as always if you have any questions, concerns, or special requests you can call or text me (Melissa) at 702.306.7530. You’ll receive Sara & Hilary’s contact info upon registration and they will be communicating with you directly.
