Clear, Clean, Create: 5 elements to include in your ideal space

Recently I shared the importance of women claiming space of their own. This time of year offers us a wonderful opportunity to reflect, rest, regroup, and eventually begin to prepare our space for the coming year. This year I changed things up a bit and it’s made all the difference in the world! Read on to discover how adding 5 elements further amplifies the work you’re doing in your space.

The 1 thing I did differently

clear, clean, create: the 5 elements of space design

Instead of just reorganizing, clearing my desk, doing some major cleaning, etc. I cleared EVERYTHING out of my space. This made cleaning and energetic clearing of the space much easier but more importantly it disrupted my Status Quo Bias.

Despite your conscious brain, courageous heart, and beautiful soul wanting change and growth and expansion, your subconscious brain will always, always, always want the status quo. And that’s a big deal because your subconscious brain is responsible for over 95% of your decision making!

How to work with your brain to support your body

This has huge implications for how you’ll go about making these big growth changes, and how I can best support you in doing that. For now, let’s just look at how we can work with this inherent bias to prepare the soil in which you will plant your seed (aka, claim your space).

First of all with everything removed from my office it just felt good. Spacious, clear, expansive, and full of possibility! Please do try this at home! Whatever space your claiming, clear it out, clean it up, light a candle and sit there. It’s an incredible feeling to know this is YOURS.

Your space.

Your clarity.

Your place of expansion.

Your possibilities.

When you’re done basking in that glow and notice the pile of papers, notebooks, journals, chairs, binders, books, bills, and more notebooks and journals (it’s cool, i have an office supply problem as well) you know you’ll need to begin re-assembling your space. What do you want to keep? What is truly going to inspire you? What no longer supports and motivates me in the strongest way possible?

In years past I would ask these same questions but I would do so without the complete clearing. I would look around at items that are already in my space, perhaps even already serving me in some capacity, and I would make (what I thought was) and conscious and intentional decision about whether or not to keep it as it was.

No matter how much I think I meant it, and how well I could justify it my brain was already in KEEP IT mode thanks to the status quo bias of desiring little to no change. By removing everything from the space I force my brain to be a little less bias in how it influences my decisions.

The result has been a space that has maintained that feeling of clarity longer than I’ve ever managed to do so in the past. There is far less “stuff” weighing me down visually and cluttering up my thought process. When I come into my office to work or write, I continue to feel far more clarity around what I’m doing than I had in the past. This space is far more supportive than it’s ever been and that feels really good.

Early on in the clearing and preparing process I committed to only having one project out at a time. If I needed to move to something else, all the materials that related to that previous project were marked and tucked away. This has helped immensely with my shiny penny syndrome. I still get distracted with ideas and thoughts but I have a system to manage those (more on that later). What I realize now is how distracting everything else was in my space without noticing it at all at the time. Because SO much of what goes on with our brains and bodies is happening at a subconscious level!

Including the 5 Elements to Support Your Mind, Body, and Soul

I’d love for you to try this technique of complete clearing. Once the physical objects are gone you can perform your own ritual of energetic clearing. Before grabbing for your sage bundles though, I encourage you to consider alternative methods that show more thoughtful compassion for the space we all share (Mother Earth) and the people we share it with (Indigenous people). Once you’ve cleared and cleaned, only then do you begin to re-assemble your space. I know you’ll be happily surprised by what you create working from the ground up.

It’s likely that the space you’ve chosen as your own is indoors. Bringing the 5 elements of nature into your space can bring you balance, energy, and even wealth. If your space is especially small, such as a cupboard or shelf, know that even the tiniest of spaces can include each of the 5 elements and these can be done in some fun and surprising ways. You can download this menu of elemental offerings to begin creating a space of soul support.

When you’re ready for the next vital resource in owning your power, I’ll show you how you can take back your time. You can find this and loads of other helpful videos, downloads, and best of all an alliance of women to support you in all of it, inside our Women Rising Alliance and our Wise & Rising Mentorship.

much love,
